The Plethora of Dangers Involved in Childhood Obesity | Polish ...

Not all that long ago that obesity with all of the complications were the domain of grown-ups. In the US, things have changed for the worse in the past few decades. In addition to having more adults than before, kids and teens are developing this condition at younger ages than ever before. For children the most obvious influences are typically their parents though education and awareness raising are also super important. The parents, though, are the ones who are responsible for offering the most guidance and being the most positive role models properly. Obese children are facing immediate threats to their mental and physical well being. Looking beyond that, the kids are also at high risk for lots of issues that won?t surface until later on. For kids this is a terrible situation that is almost impossible to beat back and get over.

Type II diabetes is worth mentioning because it is up at the top of the list in terms of likelihood of occurring in kids, teens and even adults. Of course, it does make a certain sum of sense that it might happen. This particular kind of diabetes is different from Type I in that it can be prevented in some cases. Prolonged sedentary living and weight issues like obesity are two of the leading contributors to developing this disease. What happens with those who are obese is the extra demand placed on the body to produce more insulin. There is obviously, in this situation, a far greater amount of person who needs the hormone. Type II diabetes happens, then, as the body becomes more resistant to the insulin it produces.

Perhaps one of the oldest expressions out there is that kids are cruel. It?s likely that most of us have experienced this truism at some point in our lives. Kids who suffer from obesity are a lot more likely to have to deal with lots of teasing and, often, being humiliated verbally. It is any wonder how these children can get through all those years of school with their sanity intact. We all know the possible consequences of such chronic abuse. The constant verbal assaults will have a tremendous impact in areas such as self esteem, confidence and the list goes on.

When this is paired with the bullying and general social ostracizing they deal with at school and kids and teens who suffer from obesity are almost guaranteed to develop some sort of social dysfunction. A different term is ?social disability? and there are also high levels of depression, extreme unhappiness, etc. A natural result from this is an exceedingly high stress level which is widely recognized as having unhealthy psychological and physical problems. This can cause some kids who suffer from obesity to start bullying other kids. Obviously this is the result of the kids letting their anger and frustration at being bullied themselves build up to dangerous levels. ?The walking wounded? is a term that is often used to describe kids, teens and young adults who were forced to deal with this condition. This is because of the way that obesity scars the body and the spirit.
