The Plethora of Dangers Involved in Childhood Obesity | Polish ...

Not all that long ago that obesity with all of the complications were the domain of grown-ups. In the US, things have changed for the worse in the past few decades. In addition to having more adults than before, kids and teens are developing this condition at younger ages than ever before. For children the most obvious influences are typically their parents though education and awareness raising are also super important. The parents, though, are the ones who are responsible for offering the most guidance and being the most positive role models properly. Obese children are facing immediate threats to their mental and physical well being. Looking beyond that, the kids are also at high risk for lots of issues that won?t surface until later on. For kids this is a terrible situation that is almost impossible to beat back and get over.

Type II diabetes is worth mentioning because it is up at the top of the list in terms of likelihood of occurring in kids, teens and even adults. Of course, it does make a certain sum of sense that it might happen. This particular kind of diabetes is different from Type I in that it can be prevented in some cases. Prolonged sedentary living and weight issues like obesity are two of the leading contributors to developing this disease. What happens with those who are obese is the extra demand placed on the body to produce more insulin. There is obviously, in this situation, a far greater amount of person who needs the hormone. Type II diabetes happens, then, as the body becomes more resistant to the insulin it produces.

Perhaps one of the oldest expressions out there is that kids are cruel. It?s likely that most of us have experienced this truism at some point in our lives. Kids who suffer from obesity are a lot more likely to have to deal with lots of teasing and, often, being humiliated verbally. It is any wonder how these children can get through all those years of school with their sanity intact. We all know the possible consequences of such chronic abuse. The constant verbal assaults will have a tremendous impact in areas such as self esteem, confidence and the list goes on.

When this is paired with the bullying and general social ostracizing they deal with at school and kids and teens who suffer from obesity are almost guaranteed to develop some sort of social dysfunction. A different term is ?social disability? and there are also high levels of depression, extreme unhappiness, etc. A natural result from this is an exceedingly high stress level which is widely recognized as having unhealthy psychological and physical problems. This can cause some kids who suffer from obesity to start bullying other kids. Obviously this is the result of the kids letting their anger and frustration at being bullied themselves build up to dangerous levels. ?The walking wounded? is a term that is often used to describe kids, teens and young adults who were forced to deal with this condition. This is because of the way that obesity scars the body and the spirit.

Life of the Medieval Peasants

I did some research on the life of the medieval peasants and found this interesting account. The peasants had a harsh life because they have to pay rent to their lord (who owned the land) and tithes to the church.

And here is the story of the Peasant's Revolt.

Travel Insurance Reviews are Essential

People who do not do a lot of traveling may not fully understand the benefits of getting health insurance. This insurance does not just cover staying in a hospital. It may extend to things like treatments and prescriptions. It may include transport in an emergency vehicle and if necessary an emergency flight home. In the worst case, it may also include the fees to have your body returned to your home country. See also cheapest travel insurance and travel insurance Ireland.

If you plan to engage in your favorite sport while you are out of the country, you had better check the policy carefully. Many sports which have been previously covered in normal policies are now being listed as extreme. These sports can even include golf, racquetball and running.  Therefore, if you intend to do anything out of the ordinary such as surfing, zip lining or elephant treks, make certain that your policy is going to cover you.

If you are a student searching for policy, you have to make certain that you explain to the policyholder what your intentions are when you are travelling. There is a huge difference between a student policy and what many companies are now calling a backpacker plan.

The backpacker policy is designed for an individual who is taking a year off school and doing nothing but travelling. This is referred to as a gap year by many agencies. Student insurance, on the other hand, is usually a plan that is tailored to a student who intends to study abroad. Check out travel insurance over 70 and travel insurance Ireland also.

Annual insurance

Annual insurance is another plan that you should investigate. This coverage is geared to the person who does a lot of traveling throughout the year. Trips may be both for business or a holiday. If you are considering this kind of policy be careful because the agencies have various restrictions regarding the length of each trip. They do require you to return to your native country after a certain amount of time.

Ten Years

Ten years ago, this week. It feels like yesterday and a million years ago, all at once.

I remember thinking, on my drive to work that Tuesday, just how very beautiful the particular day was. It was the type of morning you just want to clone for the entire month. The sky was bright blue and the air was crisp and it was just right for my new denim jacket. Sunny, but brisk at once. Perfection.

I was working in the advertising department of the now out of business Hecht?s department store and Jeff was working at the US Capitol building. We were newlyweds, living in downtown DC along with Penelope, who turned one that morning. The day began with doggy cupcakes at the park and we had big plans for a special dinner for her that night. (No, I?m not kidding.) Life, at the time, was totally selfish and easy and revolved around the three of us.

Once the first tower was hit, word spread around my office and we all poured into the break room, watching the horrible accident. I saw the second tower hit in real time, and it became clear that this was, indeed, no accident. The office became silent, as we just watched in horror. I remember the sight of people falling from the buildings. People who went to work, just like every other day, suddenly having no choice but to fall from the sky. It was incomprehensible. It still is.

Newscasters were reporting that DC was the next target and I was unable to reach Jeff. I frantically left the office and started the drive home, in hopes that he would make his way there, too. I remember thinking that it seemed like a movie and I was just playing the role of a nervous new wife. At the same time, Jeff was told by the police to evacuate the Capitol and run for dear life. He made it through DC, a mass of racing business suits and arrived home while I battled traffic on the Key Bridge. Hours later, I finally reached our apartment, to find him waiting there. Once I hugged him, I never wanted to let go. We just held each other and cried. It felt like the world was ending.

I was glued to the TV for weeks. I sobbed for the widows and the parents and the siblings and the children. All of those innocent people, gone. I constantly played the what-ifs in my head. What if the last plane hadn?t been brought down in Pennsylvania? What if Jeff never made it out? What if it happened again?

Helicopters circled the sky above us as we tried to fall asleep every night. Restaurants with previously endless wait lists were empty. Stores opened their doors, but nobody shopped? Why would they? We all just sort of sleepwalked through our days. I vowed, upon reading about a neighbor killed in the Pentagon crash, never to have children. Why bring people into a world where something this horrific would happen? It just seemed unthinkable.

But, then again, everything seemed unthinkable at the time.

Ten years ago.

?

And, here we are.

Life Insurance Talk - 8 Oct 2011

I often get question from the public asking my views on the life insurance policy that is being sold to them, or for my views on whether they should continue their existing life policy. My answer is - attend my talk on life insurance. The next talk is organised for 8 Oct. You can register here.

You may be spending a lot of money on your life insurance policies - say 10% of your income or more. Surely, you want to know if you are getting a decent return on your savings, or being taken for a ride? Attend the talk and learn how to make the right decision.

This is most important for young people. so get your children to attend before their friend sell them a policy that gives a poor yield. If you remain ignorant, you will be wasting a large chunk of your money! Education is power!
